There was a incident that came to my attention and I thought I should bring this up to all your attention. A student wrote through the NPY feedback channel e-service :

"Recently during the morning lecture 30th may 08, i was using my laptop during the IT 1106 lecture. While looking at the slides, i realised i know almost everything about the slides that were to be presented. Hence i decided to entertain myself by playing some games. During then a lecturer came up to me asking for my student admin card. I don't think i should be "repremanded" because of it. I know my work already, so what is wrong with using my laptop to do other things? I wasn't causing any distraction to anyone around me"

So do you all think the student did the RIGHT thing? Is it ok to do that during lecture or in class? You might have your own thoughts about this, but my response is: NO There are rules about playing games in classes and you are not suppose to do that. He has shot himself in the foot because the feedback is routed directly to the School of IT Director who is also the Vice Principal of NYP. So do you think the student shouldn't be reprimanded? Your views?

Well, hope things went well on friday in the lab and for the quizz. I was in the next lab and I can see you all behaving well and the tutor was going round and assisting. So that is a good sign :) I think the lesson to be learnt here is communication. Without it, there will always be misunderstanding, mistrusts and fear. - hv a good weekend all ;) - Doc





Nice class photo. I just want to add that you should all listen and paid attention to the tutors of ALL the classes! Not just the one on Friday ;)

I also want to draw your attention to a news report in the Wednesday 21 may 2008 Todays Newspaper regarding blogging which I had attached here for your convenience :



So be mindful of what you blog in the public domain as everyone and anyone can see what you had blogged. So please observe Netiquette when blogging, even in your own personal blog sites. Some of the obvious guidelines are:

1. No obscence content


2. No political nor religious content which might offend others


3. No slanderous content or direct implication of a specific individual using his/her name


4. No libelous content about a specific individual and using his/her name

I don't want anyone of you to get into trouble with what you write and publish on the internet without knowing some of the consequences that might arise. If there are any issues of the sensitive nature, it is best that we take if off the blog and discuss them using another channel. This is not to dampen your enthusiasm of using blogging to share your experiences and thoughts. I hope you will all continue to blog and share but just bear in mind what I had said. :) - Doc

Hi all,

Don't forget to revise for this coming Friday quiz. The duration of the quiz is 20 minutes, and the weightage is 10%. As I have a specialist doctor (the medical kind ;) ) appointment on friday afternoon, I will not be there in class, instead, the ML and another lecturer will be conducting the quiz on my behalf. So you all MUST BE at the BEST of your behaviour! I do not want to hear any adverse comments or feedbacks regard this class. Please obey instructions given by the lecturer closely and paid attention in class. After the Quiz you will have to commence on the MS Word Assignment. You will need to work on work on MS Word case 1 and 2. These will be released to you to access on Friday.

Hey ppl !

Today is ZhaoJie's 17 birthday . There's a little celebration going on just now in sch , and pictures will be uploaded once i receive it . & anyone has the class photos , pls send it to me - eugenelee-@hotmail.com , so that i can share with the whole of the class .
